Who we are

"POWERING MAURITIUS FORWARD FOR AFRICA"

EQUILIBRE is the developer of an integrated solution for the efficient and cost-effective production of biomass used to generate electricity in emerging markets.

EQUILIBRE is headquartered in Mauritius since its establishment in 2011. It has worked in collaboration with the University of Mauritius, the Government’s Agricultural Institute (FAREI) and leading experts in the field of sustainable energy to develop what we consider to be the world’s most viable source of biomass (Arundo Donax) suitable for replacement of coal in Independent Power Producers and industrial boilers.

Equilibre’s vision is to become a leader in the mass production of biomass for the production of clean energy based on the intensive agro-cultivation of fuel crops, such as our specially developed Arundo Donax hybrid plant.

Arundo Donax is easy to cultivate and has a high calorific value. When burnt Arundo is a net zero emitter of Greenhouse Gases, as carbon is sequestered into the Arundo during the growing phase. The cultivation of Arundo creates jobs, saves valuable foreign exchange, provides pricing stability and is kind to the environment as its ash does not contain toxic substances such as coal ash.

Equilibre has developed a comprehensive, integrated solution for the production of clean energy that starts with the cultivation of fuel crops through to the implementation of fuel pellet, bio-fuel and 100% biomass electricity generation plants.

Equilibre has invested in scientific research in Mauritius in conjunction with the University of Mauritius and the Government’s agricultural research unit (FAREI) over a 6 year period. We believe this has produced one of the world’s leading knowledge repositories for Arundo Donax.

Equilibre is proud to have been a pioneer in the first successful combustion trial of Arundo Donax, whereby electricity was successfully exported to the Mauritius national grid in April 2016 for a 10 hour period. This has resulted in a proven combustion model that demonstrates the effectiveness of Arundo Donax as a coal replacement.

Equilibre realises that one of the greatest challenges for developing countries is the high cost of importing fuel as well as the creation of jobs. Our model addresses both issues and can become a driver of significant socio-economic growth.

In addition, our fuel crop is a net zero producer of greenhouse gasses while the residual ash is organic in nature and does not require specialised disposal. Our pellet plants are able to produce a conditioned and compressed Arundo product that can be exported, thereby generating foreign currency.

Equilibre has assembled a world-class management team with expertise in agronomy, engineering and project management. In addition, it has proven ability to develop successful enterprises across multiple emerging markets.

"THE FOUNDER"

Laurent de Morelos

CEO

Mr. de Morelos is a reputable expert in business development in a variety of industrial activity sectors. He has gained a wealth of experience during his extensive international career in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

After seventeen years of operations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as Founder of EQUILIBRE, Mr. de Morelos is known today as a leader of international industrial projects and in the past seven years, has been focused on innovative solutions within the renewable energy sector.

Mr. de Morelos is behind the implementation of the first biomass to bio-energy projects in Mauritius integrating the development of a purpose locally developed energetic plant called Arundo Donax a source of biomass for the production of clean sustainable green energy.

A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER

“Our team is driven with determination to promote Global sustainable solutions that will effectively contribute to re-establishing a holistic equilibrium for a better World. We have learned to adapt to circumstances and turn our obstacles into new opportunities.

We seek constructive cooperation through strategic partnerships, to implement long awaited unprecedented win-win opportunities for the benefit of all. Conscientiously aware of our paradigm environment, we thrive to never stop thinking outside the box. We rally and challenge individuals and organizations that will support and contribute to our visionary enthusiasm.

We were particularly encouraged when the United Nations Secretary General and President of the World Bank, reaffirmed at the World Economic Forum 2014 in Davos, their priority commitment and determination to support projects that would clearly demonstrate contribution to sustainable economic growth, reduce poverty and provide green energy solutions that encompases the Global Climate Change agenda. We our proud to confirm that our project model in Mauritius has been developed to meet these latest Global guidelines.

We welcome the recently inaugurated Commonwealth Global Climate Finance Hub office hosted by the Government of Mauritius under the hospice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We look forward to developing a collaborative relationship with CGCFH to assist with its carbon emissions mitigation objectives.”
